Roycroft - lot 167 September 2005


ROYCROFT/DARD HUNTER Extremely rare table lamp designed and executed by Dard Hunter, with a gently sloping circular leaded-glass shade with a stylized pattern of fruit and foliage in yellow and green slag glass, over a ceramic base modeled with salamanders and covered in matte green glaze. From the Estate of Miriam Hubbard Roelofs, Elbert and Alice Hubbard's daugther, and from the Salon room of the Roycroft Inn. Very few examples of Hunter's ceramic work remain. A few short breaks to glass. Base marked DH. 13" x 17 1/4"

FULPER Rare mushroom-shaped lamp covered in a superb Leopard-Skin Crystalline glaze, the shade inset with leaded glass, on a flaring, two-socket base. (Recently discovered in a New York home, these are seldom found in such perfect condition.) Crack to one glass piece, samll reglued chip under base of lamp, small grinding chip. Vertical mark. 17" x 17"

GRUEBY Table lamp with a reticulated Kendrick base covered in a superior matte green glaze. The original, electrified bronze font supports a leaded glass shade in floral pattern attributed to Duffner and Kimberly. Tight 2" hairline and minor nicks to base, a couple of short lines to glass on shade. Base has circular Faience stamp, font has Grueby Pottery paper label with price and number, shade unmarked. Base: 12" x 8", shade: 8" x 19", overall: 23" x 19"

Several short breaks to glass, original Tiffany three-socket fixture. Remnants of white paint on pottery. Shade stamped TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK 1435-34, base covered with mount. 21" x 16"
