Roycroft - lot 169 September 2005

ROYCROFT Rare hand-tooled and embossed leather covered chair with vertical seat-rail slats and tapered legs. Good original finish with minor wear. (The tooled and embossed leather seat panel was removed and framed years ago. AT the time of this photo, it was being restored and replaced on the seat frame. Interested bidders should request a current photo of the chair or can view the restored chair in our online catalogue). Carved orb and cross mark. From the estate of Elbert Hubbard, and the salon of the Roycroft Inn. This is one of two chairs pictured in period photos of the room. 37 1/2" x 24" x 24"

ROYCROFT Bird's Eye Maple vanity with pivoting mirror, single-drawer, Macmurdo feet, and copper hardware, together with a matching chair newly covered in cream patterned fabric. Partially restored finish, good condition. (Provenance: Emerson room, Roycroft Inn, East Aurora, NY). Branded inside back stretcher of chair. Die-stamped R-O-35 on stretcher. Vanity: 58" x 39" x 17 3/4", chair: 35 1/4" x 17" x 16"

ROYCROFT Important sideboard with leaded-glass cabinet doors over a mirrored back, three small drawers flanked by cupboard doors over a linen drawer all having original copper hardware. Beautiful original finish and patina, top re-joined to lower portion with pegs, one side panel has a seam separation. Carved orb and cross mark on center stile. 75 1/2" x 65 1/2" x 21"

ROYCROFT Ali Baba bench with canted, A-shaped sides, lower stretcher mortised through the sides and half-log seat. Excellent original finish. Carved orb and cross mark. 19 1/4" x 42" x 11"

ROYCROFT Bride's chest of plank construction with keyed through-tenons, iron strap-hinges and hasp, with original lock and chain. Original finish with overcoat, seam separations. Carved signature. 21" x 39" x 21" The back is the only part of the piece not overcoated. Edge wear along bottom front edges, chip to back right leg, split to back right side, seam separations to right, left, front and top. Plugs missing from screw holes in top, one is filled with putty.
